Learn Italian in Tuscany

Welcome to Italianissimi, the Italian Language Department of British School Pisa.

Whether you already know a little of the Italian language, are currently attending Italian courses at home or have decided to dip your toe for the very first time into this beautiful and captivating language, we hope you will join us this summer at our language school here in the very heart of Tuscany.

Our school, opened in 1986 on the banks of the River Arno in the centre of the old city, is run by British ex-pats who fell in love with Tuscany and the Italian language and who accordingly understand at first hand both the challenges and rewards of learning a new language at a later stage of life.

This background, combined with the expertise and passion of our Italian-born staff, creates a comfortable and stimulating environment that we believe is ideal for English mother tongue speakers who want to learn Italian in Tuscany.

Why Choose to Learn Italian in Pisa?

Apart from its Leaning Tower Pisa is often overlooked by visitors, and yet it is a superb base for exploring this diverse and wonderful region by both car and public transport. For those wanting a taste of the sea, it boasts its own beaches in Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia. Within an hour you can reach Florence, the beautiful walled town of Lucca, stunning mediaeval Volterra, the astonishing marble quarries of Carrara or the stylish beach resorts of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi. 90minutes by train will see you disembarking at Riomaggiore, the first of the five villages that make up the breathtaking Cinque Terre, or alternatively you can head south to glorious Siena, meaning there are plenty of excursions with which to occupy your afternoons after your morning lessons. And, armed with your newly acquired or improved Italian, you will handle public transport and asking for directions with consummate ease!

The school itself is just off Piazza Garibaldi, right in the very centre of the old city. The famous Leaning Tower and Cathedral are 5 minutes walk away, and the area is teeming with local restaurants and bars. For all its fame, Pisa is surprisingly “untouristy” with a vibrant local culture and a compact layout which makes it easy to navigate.
